CL 5 1982 Joseph Banigan (b.1839 in Ireland, d.1898 in Providence), industrialist. Emigrated to America at age 8 settling in Providence. Founder of the Woonsocket Rubber Company in 1867. Built the Alice Mill on Fairmount Street in 1889. Was early president of U.S. Rubber Company, elected in 1893. Was also president of the American Wringer Company and on the board of directors of many area companies.
