Wendell Phillips, abolitionist newspaper editor and reformer from Massachusetts, visited and gave lectures in
Woonsocket on March 23, 1855 at Armory Hall and January 24, 1859 at Harris Hall. He was later president of the
American Anti-Slavery society in 1865.
