Norman Oliver (b.1914 in Fall River, d.1974 in Woonsocket). Physicist. Was known as the foremost expert on
Antarctica and the Northern and Southern lights. Author of over 30 books, taught at Harvard and M.I.T. Was a
Woonsocket resident for over 36 years. Member of the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame. Pictured here with
Admiral Richard Byrd.
