CL 34 1940's Charles "Gabby" Hartnett (b.1900 in Woonsocket, d.1972 in Illinois) Baseball player, member of Hall of Fame (1955). Nineteen seasons as a catcher with the Chicago Cubs and was later their manager. Lifetime batting average of .298. His induction into the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown marked the second Woonsocketer to be so honored, the other being Napoleon Lajoie.
